Key Dates, Information and Terms and Conditions

All applications will be considered and assessed against the requirements of the Role Description and Person Specification in order to longlist and shortlist candidates. If you have been successful at this stage, we will contact you. If you are unsuccessful at any stage, you will be offered feedback.

Please note the following interview dates:

  • Longlisting interviews will take place on 9 and 10 January 2019
  • Interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place on 21 and 22 January 2019
  • Second interviews for candidates shortlisted for the role of Chair Designate will take place on 6 February 2019

Shortlisted candidates are likely to be asked to prepare a short, verbal presentation and to undertake a psychometric assessment activity.

Remuneration and terms of appointment: First Ark’s board is remunerated, and expenses are payable in line with the First Ark Non-Executive Remuneration and Expenses Policy. The level of remuneration from Monday 1 April 2019 is as follows:

  • Group Chair: £14,500
  • Deputy Chair: £8,000
  • Committee Chairs: £7,000
  • Board Members: £5,500

The role of Deputy Chair and the Committee Chairs will be decided by the Group Board once all positions are recruited. All successful candidates will be asked to sign an Agreement for Services. This will be for an initial one-year period.

Induction and training: All successful candidates will be offered tailored induction and support.

Time commitment and number of meetings: The Board has between 6 and 8 formal meetings and informal strategy meetings per annum. Most of the committees meet quarterly. The expectation is that members will attend at least 80% of meetings. First Ark believes that effective Board membership is as much about mutual Non-Executive Director respect and support in addition to the quality and added value of the individual’s contributions across the whole of the Board’s business.

There will be an additional time commitment primarily in the first six months for induction purposes. We would like successful candidates to be able to engage in induction with the organisation in February and March 2019. In particular we would like the Chair Designate to be able to liaise closely with the Interim Group Chair to allow for a successful handover.
